Knitting

Well I am pleased with yesterday!  I started my second sock by myself!  I am such a beginning knitter that it is a real accomplishment.  I purchased an app for knitting called Knitting Help. It is full of videos so I was able to cast on move the yarn to three needles and start my knit and purl stitches. I have finished my first sock but it was in a class and I couldn't move without direction so this is progress.
 This weekend is my quilting retreat at Yankee Quilter so I need to figure out which project I want to work on. It is great to quilt in a group setting. Other people are inspiring to sew with! I may start one of the string quilts that I spent all that time cutting fabric for, hmmmmm.
  I am off to walk with a new walking buddy. Hope we can get it done between showers!  Have a creative day!!!!  Michele

Happy Sunday!

Hi!  Beautiful day here in CT but if you look hard enough you can see signs of Fall breaking through. I am working on a brightly colored quilt that I just love. I used the summer collection of Batik charm squares from Keepsake Quilting and made 2.5" black corner squares to form stars. The effect is stunning. I have some Batik squares I have added from my stash. With the little triangle corners I cut off I hope to make something else. I will post a pic of both the squares forming the stars and the triangles forming pinwheels.

The kids left this morning to head back to VA. Jack didn't join us this time, instead he got to spend time in Key West just ahead of hurricane Issac. Austin ran a fever all weekend but was his usual charming self only he talks now so that much more fun. He liked the car mat that I made him, yea!  Well let me get a pic of this quilt to be posted and then back to work!

Kids are visiting this weekend.

They are due in the next half hour. I made Austin a play mat for his cars and a little draw string bag for the cars. I also made pickles, salsa and strawberry jam for the visit. Can you tell I am excited??? I post a couple pics of the reversible car mat. Came out cute.

Yesterday small squares.

Before I got going on my day I grabbed approx. 250 5" squares and cut about 500 2.5"!squares. I am trying to get to my 2000 squares to start my postage stamp quilt!  I need to put my living room cutting station away since the kids are going to visit this weekend.  I need to finish getting ready for them. I think I almost have enough squares to start that quilt!

I am spending a few hours with Monroe Historical Society this morning.  We are getting ready for the Textile Sale in a few weeks.  I usually end up bringing home more quilting fabric. I think I have become their best customer!  Off I go.....

Scraps

Just wanted to show a sample of the scraps I have been working on. My strips are various widths and you can see the squares. In case you are wondering the 2.5" ones are far a postage stamp quilt. Can't wait till I have cut enough. I understand it will take about 2,000. Yikes!

I guess this is an on-line diary. Hmmm, I don't have a good track record with diaries. We'll see how this goes!
I thought I would talk about what is going on with my quilting, garden, and sometimes travel. Maybe a little wine talk sometimes. Notice I said wine not whine! I spent a large part of this past weekend cutting new fabric into 2.5" squares, 5" squares and strips. I have several quilts running around in my mind trying to get out. I had a chance to pick up a huge black garbage bag of fabric from my historical society's textile sale stash! This fabric was salesman's samples for quiltshops. Can you say quilting nirvana??? This is the fabric I am cutting up for storage! I blame Bonnie Hunter and her books on scrap quilts. I just picked up the most recent one last week called String Fling. I have been cutting up actual scraps and all this new sample fabric. In my mind it will be a beautiful quilt or two or three!

Now my garden, it has gotten out of hand and I think I need to make some salsa and maybe rhubarb cake to use up some produce. I suppose weeding is needed, good luck with that;)
